Recycled Nature
2011
“Recycled Natures” stands as an experimental photography artwork that sheds light on the issue of illegal pollution in the Latvian countryside. Drawing upon data from the State Environmental Service of the Republic of Latvia, it was revealed that in 2011, three of the most heavily contaminated sites in Latvia were the forests near Zolitude, Bolderaja in Riga, and the Madona district’s Biksere area.
To document and address this environmental concern, I embarked on a journey to these locations to capture photographs and gather materials that would later serve as the basis for creating DIY photo paper. Each site yielded its own unique paper, characterized by distinct coloring and properties. The photographs taken were developed on these self-made photo papers using photography development techniques. This approach not only enabled me to convey visual representations of these places but also encapsulated a tangible essence of the locations themselves.
